Madrassa Arabia Mosque

(Click photo for larger version. Press Back button to return here.)

"M" is for "Mosque" and today's photo shows the Madrassa Arabia Mosque in Ashton.

The Mosque is an Islamic place of worship and the Madrassa is a religious education centre and the two facilities are incorporated into this new building at the junction of Katherine Street and Richmond Street.

To the right of the Mosque can be seen the fine Victorian terrace on Richmond Street.

Ashton's other large Mosque, by coincidence, was shown here on last week's Sky Watch feature.

  4. There is a story that goes with this Mosque.
The Local Islamic community raised the money to buy this land and build the Mosque. They hired a builder to construct it but he did a runner with all the money. So the Mosque had to be constructed over several years while chunks of money were raised. Its only recently been finished.

  5. A great angle
That replaced the Unitarian Church on the site.
I wonder if you still go there to cast your vote in elections!

  7. Unfortunately, it doesn't look as picturesque from other angles and when not seen through the trees at the back of the Ring O' Bells pub. In fact, it usually looks quite 'plasticky' and recalls the episode of 'The Apprentice' when the contestants had to buy a cheap-looking alarm clock.

Directly from the front, views of the mosque will include the local winos congregating in the little 'Stone Henge' garden to the side of the Ring O' Bells.

Further to Anonymous' comments, one of the other set-backs the mosque experienced was idiots throwing pig parts (a couple of times actual pigs' heads) into the building during its already protracted building time.

I'd love to see a picture of the small, old Unitarian Church that was there before the mosque.
