Highland Laddie

The Highland Laddie pub on Old Street started life in 1813 and was the Spinners Arms until 1820.

It was re-built in 1900, along with the neighbouring properties, to form a terrace with the present rather grand frontage.

In recent years it has been known as the Camel Bar.

See Birds Eye View of this location.

  1. Pretty sure that the doors of the highland Laddie were a record holder as the biggest pub doors, not too sure if they were in the guiness book of records

  2. During the late 1800's, the Highland Laddie Inn this was the meeting place of the Ancient Order of Shepherds, a local charitable body founded in Ayrshire Scotland.

  3. The Ancient Order of Shepherds did indeed meet at the Highland Laddie, although they must not be confused with the Loyal Order of Ancient Shepherds (Ashton Unity) which started in Ashton and had branches around Britain, including in Scotland!

  4. How did it get the camel name?

  5. I believe this was on the Brushmakers tramping route?
